About our Emcee…
Precious D. Carter is a passionate educator, arts advocate, and dynamic performer with 27 years of service in Prince George’s County Public Schools. A proud product of Richmond Public Schools in Virginia, she went on to earn her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Music Education from Virginia State University, where she studied under the esteemed Dr. Aldrich Adkins, Ms. Lisa Burrs, and the legendary Ms. Johnella Edmonds. She later received her Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an Administrative Certification from McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland.
Currently, Ms. Carter serves as the Coordinator of the Creative and Performing Arts Program at Hyattsville Middle School. In this role, she leads a vibrant community of over 300 students and eight arts educators across disciplines, including visual arts, dance, music, media arts, theater, and creative writing.
Before her current leadership role, she spent 17 years as the Choral Director and music teacher at Thomas Stone Elementary School, where she shaped young voices and inspired a love for music and performance. Beyond the classroom, Ms. Carter is an accomplished performer.
Her credits include performances with the Millennium Mass Choir and theatrical roles such as Eveline in The Wiz, Sasha in Hands Made to Hold, and a scene-stealing turn as a salon owner in the award-winning film 33rd and Memphis.
In 2017, she was honored as Educator of the Year by the FAME organization, a testament to her impact as both an educator and artist. Ms. Carter is an member of the Maryland Music Educators Association (MMEA) and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She is also a proud mother to a rising sophomore theater major who is boldly pursuing his artistic path. As a strong advocate for the arts Precious believes that the ARTS provides healing and changes lives.
