Kenita B. Matthews, APR, is a mission-driven communications strategist with more than two decades of experience spanning K–12 public education, state and federal government, and consulting. She is the Founder and Principal of The KBM Collaborative, a strategic communications firm focused on collaborating with visionary leaders to shape the narratives that drive transformative change. Previously, Kenita has led communications efforts across multiple school divisions in the commonwealth and has held senior leadership roles at the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA), the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and the global sustainability consultancy Environmental Resources Management (ERM). Prior to her start in public education and government, Kenita also managed community affairs production and programming for the Hampton Roads NBC affiliate station, WAVY TV10.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Media with a concentration in Broadcast Journalism from Hampton University, a Master’s degree in Public Relations from Norfolk State University, and is an Accredited Public Relations (APR) practitioner. Kenita serves on the board of directors for the National Preeclampsia Foundation and currently serves as president of PRSA Richmond. She has been an active member of the Public Relations Society of America since 2013, holding multiple leadership positions at the chapter and district levels, including with PRSA Hampton Roads, PRSA Richmond, and the PRSA Mid-Atlantic District.

A proud native of Norfolk, Virginia, Kenita is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and resides in Henrico, Virginia, with her husband and two daughters.
